Sign in to your provider

These steps use the Codex provider. Complete sign-in in your own terminal session:

"$NOOKINS_HOME/bin/nookins" maintenance assets install codex
"$NOOKINS_HOME/bin/nookins" agent codex auth
"$NOOKINS_HOME/bin/nookins" agent codex status

If a provider is already connected, check its status first. Reauthentication is only necessary when that check requires it. The installer does not create a provider account or include model access.

Start Nookins

"$NOOKINS_HOME/bin/nookins" service foreground

Keep this terminal running. In a second terminal, select the same home and open the primary agent:

export NOOKINS_HOME="$HOME/.nookins-new" # Use your actual selected home.

Try a small task

Ask: “Describe your role in two sentences, then help me outline a three-step plan for organizing my reading notes.”

Expect one useful response with the intended personality. A healthy service alone does not verify provider access or agent behavior. If you configured additional agent IDs, exit this console before testing each one.

Check your setup

Keep messaging disabled until the local reply works. Stop the foreground process with Ctrl-C before offline configuration changes. After restarting, check the service and ask another short question.

When the replies look right, configure your agents or connect one conversation.
